Description

..and forever the Watcher awaits,
the return of his soldier brother,
the return never to come...

To get Burn Your Crosses out of my head, I did this. Just for fun. And I'm really, really proud. It might not be "advanced" in any way, nor did it take much time, but it's beautiful in the way it's so simple. The over-all feel, that mix between clarity of reality and the softness of dreams - fantasy, it has shadows and reflections, but the moon sink into the sea and the watery rock he stand upon create no ripples as the water touches it. It is fantasy.

the story;; once, a long time ago, there were two unicorn brothers. They lived on an island just offshore the mainland, and they were tight and their souls had an unusual bond. But one day, the mainland was invaded by another tribe. The older of the brothers had to go to war, and to do that, he had to cross the water. He smiled at his younger brother, and said; "I will return. I promise. Just keep watch, and I'll come back one day, lil bro'." The younger of the pair answered; "I promise to watch for you - every day and night, until you return!" The older merely laughed, and they shared one final moment of peace and the feel of being together in both soul and flesh - and then, the older brother had to go. He left the younger, and fought hard in the war.
In the meanwhile, the younger brother kept to his word and Watched for the return of his brother, standing upon some rocks in the ocean, so that he could see his brother from as far as possible. For he had sworn he'd come back, so then he had to.
But his brother died in the war, and his soul destroyed so nothing could ever return to his waiting brother. And the war ended.
But still, his younger brother was faithfully perched upon his rocks, awaiting his brother's return.
The return that never would come.

I think it's a quite sad picture, and also the little story I made up as I made the picture. I think there's a statue in Denmark of a wife awaiting her soldier's return, so she's standing looking out over the sea, still waiting for him - but he never came. I think I was subconsiously inspired by that and went with it, kind of.

time: I seriously don't know, but I'd guess a couple of hours.
